GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A northeastern North Dakota farmer involved in a summer-long standoff with law enforcement in 2011 has struck a plea deal with prosecutors that could keep him and family members from serving prison time.

Fifty-six-year-old Rodney Brossart is accused of resisting arrest, damaging a law enforcement vehicle and threatening deputies. Three of his sons are accused of pointing rifles at deputies and a daughter is accused of assaulting a deputy.

The standoff began as a case of missing cattle. Authorities used a drone in making some arrests.

Prosecutor Peter Welte says that it's typical to try to resolve a case before taking it to trial. A judge must agree to the plea deal.

Nelson County Sheriff Kelly Janke wants the case to go trial.
