BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota celebrates Statehood Day.
It is North Dakota's 123rd birthday.
North Dakota and South Dakota both entered the Union on Nov. 2, 1889.
President Benjamin Harrison signed the admission papers for the two states on that day.
North Dakota is listed as the 39th state, and South Dakota is 40th.
North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger says people should use the day to reflect on the state's past and the prospects for its future.
Jaeger says he thinks of the pioneers who built the state, and how fortunate it is to have a good economy.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple says North Dakota has "so much to be thankful for'' and Statehood Day is "a great occasion to celebrate our proud history.''
