BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A deputy Bismarck police chief is among four finalists to be the next chief in North Dakota's capital city.

The candidates to succeed retired Chief Keith Witt are Deputy Chief Dan Donlin; West Monroe, La., Chief Christopher Elg; Chicago Police Commander Elias Voulgaris; and Woodlake, Calif., Chief John Zapalac.

The City Commission will interview the finalists on Dec. 10 and put them through an exercise to test their skills the following day.

Witt retired at the end of April. Three finalists to succeed him had been named that month, but city commissioners decided not to hire any of them and instead named an interim police chief and re-advertised the position.
