ND Lawmakers Ask TSA To Replace Body Scanners

North Dakota's Washington delegation is calling on the Transportation Security Administration to develop a plan to replace the full-body scanners that are being yanked from airports in Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks.

 

 

 

 

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's Washington delegation is calling on the Transportation Security Administration to develop a plan to replace the full-body scanners that are being yanked from airports in Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks.

Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp joined Rep. Kevin Cramer in writing a letter to TSA Administrator John Pistole, who oversees airports such as North Dakota's.

TSA is removing the full-body scanners to comply with the FAA Modernization and Reform Act.

The goal is to replace the first generation of body scanners, which were criticized for being too revealing.

The new scanners are more cartoon-like in depicting of the human body.

The delegation wrote that they ``appreciate TSA's compliance with the law,'' but they're concerned the change will compromise security.
