North Dakota is on pace to eclipse last year’s road fatality total. Last year, 148 people died. So far this year, there's been 134 fatalities.
Highway Patrol Safety and Education Officer Sergeant Tom Iverson says there are things drivers can do to help slow the fatality pace, such as practicing defensive driving, wearing a seatbelt, not drinking and driving, and not driving when you're drowsy.
Iverson says with the increased traffic during the holiday season, the patrol will be stepping up its enforcement efforts.
