The Salvation Army says someone in the area performed a golden act of generosity.
A gold coin was deposited at the Scheels Kettle on 45th street south.
It's a South African krugerrand coin worth $1,600.
Earlier in the week, a quarter ounce gold coin was placed in the kettle at Northport Hornbacher's.
That coin is valued at $400.
The Salavation Army has reached 60 percent of its $825 thousand goal.
The kettle drive ends at noon on Christmas Eve.
