Fargo police are making headway in curbing rising crime downtown.
Lt. Jeff Skuza says officers were pulled from other shifts to work the night patrol downtown, focused on bar closing time. That, along with undercover work and temporary installation of surveillance cameras along a stretch of NP Avenue has resulted in a significant drop in thefts, personal and property crimes since July when the new tactics were put in place.
Skuza says while the changes appears to be making a difference, police need a longer period of time to see if the downward trend continues.
