A bill that would fund an additional $7.4-million in school-based mental health grants cleared its first hurdle in the Minnesota House.
Representative Jim Davnie says mental health services are currently only available in 17 percent of schools in the state.
Davnie says 94 percent of students in Eden Prairie who received school-based mental health services showed improved academic achievement.
He notes that services are not available in Anoka-Hennepin which has had several suicides in recent years.
