State law trumps Fargo and West Fargo's attempts to enact local adult entertainment ordinances.

Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes was surprised to find a state statuate that prohibits cities from regulating obscene performances and obscene materials. Ternes says Fargo will look at amending the state law but that won't happen until the next legislative session in two years. In the meantime, he says undercover prostitution stings will continue.

Moorhead approved an adult entertainment ordinance this week that requires strippers, exotic dancers and escorts to get a city issued license, and undergo a background check.
