Bismarck To Expand Civic Center Exhibit Hall

City leaders have voted to expand the downtown Bismarck Civic Center's Exhibit Hall and to study a possible new events center on the city's north side.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - City leaders have voted to expand the downtown Bismarck Civic Center's Exhibit Hall and to study a possible new events center on the city's north side.

The expansion project will cost $27 million. A new events center could cost $150 million.

City commissioners have been debating what to do since voters last November rejected a $90 million Civic Center expansion. Mayor John Warford says the Exhibit Hall expansion will meet immediate convention needs. He says it would be ideal to also have an events center on the city's north side.

Work on the expansion likely will start this spring and be mostly done in time for a big oil conference in May 2014. Officials say it's possible that a north-side event center could be on the election ballot that year.
