Fargo City Planner Jim Gilmour says there's a "flurry" of activity from residential developers looking to build on the city's south and southwest sides. He says 190 single family lots have already been approved by the Planning Commission. Another 160 are on the agenda this month and more than 100 in April, plus 150 townhomes. The numbers are even more surprising because Fargo has 800 lots with infrastructure and another 800 lots but not yet served by utilities and streets. Gilmour says developers are telling him many of those lots are already sold.

Demand for new apartments is also strong. last year, 700 units went up and based on rezoning requests, Gilmour wouldn't be surprised to see a similar number this year. He says vacancy rates in Fargo are the lowest he's seen in the 18 years he's been here.
