RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Authorities in western South Dakota are investigating a case in which a dead dog was found covered in duct tape and abandoned.
A rock hunter found the body of the dog Monday on the Cheyenne River in Pennington County. Animal control officials are checking to see if the dog has a microchip or other form of identification that could lead them to the owner.
Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine if it is a case of animal cruelty, or if the animal died and its owner didn't know how to dispose of it.
