Appeals Court To Hear Arguments In Fighting Sioux Nickname Case

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Feb. 14th in the case of Spirit Lake nickname supporters vs. the NCAA.

 

 

 

 

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Feb. 14th in the case of Spirit Lake nickname supporters vs. the NCAA.

The legal challenge seeks to toss a district court ruling that said tribal members lacked standing in the settlement over the former University of North Dakota moniker. 

The suit claims the tribes were not included in the discussions with the NCAA despite a 1969 traditional Sioux ceremony giving UND rights to use the nickname.
