Old Stutsman County Courthouse Causing Air Problem

A consultant says the old Stutsman County Courthouse is causing some air quality problems for the new courthouse next door.

 

 

 

 

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - A consultant says the old Stutsman County Courthouse is causing some air quality problems for the new courthouse next door.

Tests show there is at least seven different species of mold in the old courthouse. Some could provoke allergies or cause cancer.

The courthouse was built in 1882. It's been closed to the public for decades, but it has some building connections to Stutsman County's new courthouse and officials say the links are letting in some bad air.

Environmental consultant Mark Emter said the old courthouse should be isolated from the newer building. It has problems with asbestos and lead as well as mold.

Stutsman County officials do not know who will pay for the work. The old courthouse belongs to the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
