BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a pickup truck driver killed two young brothers from Texas and injured their father and another boy when he drove over their tent at a northern North Dakota campground.
The Highway Patrol says the 30-year-old driver from Newburg lost control of his truck around 1 a.m. Sunday in the Hahn's Bay Campground at Lake Metigoshe. Troopers say he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
The patrol says the truck drove over the tent, killing 5-year-old Alaries Ruiz and his 9-year-old brother, Cyris Ruiz. The boys' 28-year-old father, Juan Ruiz of El Paso, Texas, was flown to a Minot hospital with serious injuries. Nine-year-old Anthony Tabarez Jr. has minor injuries. The truck then crashed into a tree.
Bottineau County prosecutor Swain Benson says criminal charges are pending.
