Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker is pushing for approval of a city sales tax extension in Tuesday's primary.
Walaker said several projects are in limbo.
"It's provided us with the funds to do what's extraordinary, and that's to provide flood protection for our community," said Walaker. "Everybody talks about there's plenty of money. There's not. Right now, we have six projects in engineering that are on hold. What this is is extraordinary. We have houses to buy, we have dikes to build."
Walaker, appearing on KFGO "News & Views," said the city needs another $247 million to bring flood protection to 42-and-a-half feet. He said there is no guarantee that federal money will come through for the proposed diversion.
