ND's U.S. Senate Race May Be Decided By Ticket Splitters

North Dakota's competitive Senate race is coming down to ticket-splitters.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's competitive Senate race is coming down to ticket-splitters.

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is expected to easily win the state, which is now enjoying a boom in energy development.

But in the race for retiring Democrat Kent Conrad's seat in the U.S. Senate, GOP Congressman Rick Berg is locked in a bitter battle with the state's former Democratic attorney general, Heidi Heitkamp.

Heitkamp is drawing support from many voters who are certain to cast their ballots for Romney.

Berg is working to persuade voters to vote a straight Republican ticket.

The race is potentially critical to GOP hopes of taking back the Senate.

Republicans need a net gain of four seats to win control if Obama wins re-election, three if Romney wins.
