A Wahpeton man has been sentenced for trapping a bald eagle. Jay Schuler pleaded guilty in Fargo federal court to taking and trapping a bald eagle in violation of the federal eagle act.
A game warden found a bald eagle caught in a trap last December. A turkey carcass had been placed near the trap.
Schuler was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and make a $6500 community service payment to the national fish and wildlife foundation.
The eagle was rehabilitated at the Chahinkapa zoo in Wahpeton. Despite permanent damage to a talon, the eagle has been released into the wild.
