Public Hearings Scheduled On Xcel Energy Electric Rate Hike Proposal

Xcel Energy wants to raise its electric rates by 9.25 percent. It would boost the electric bill for a typical Xcel customer by more than $6 a month. The request would give Xcel $16.9 million more in annual electric revenue.

BISMARCK, N.D. (GPN) – North Dakota’s Public Service Commission will hold public comment sessions in four North Dakota cities next month to talk about a proposed Xcel Energy electric rate increase.


Xcel Energy wants to raise its electric rates by 9.25 percent. It would boost the electric bill for a typical Xcel customer by more than $6 a month. The request would give Xcel $16.9 million more in annual electric revenue.


Xcel provides electricity to about 88,000 customers. Most of them are in Fargo, West Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot.


The comment sessions will be held in Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and Bismarck at 7 p.m. on April 15th and noon on April 16th.


The Fargo sessions will be at EML Hall, 1600 University Drive North, at North Dakota State University.


In Grand Forks, the sessions will be in the University of North Dakota’s Gamble Hall, 293 Centennial Drive, Room 130.


In Minot, the sessions will be in Minot State University’s Administration Building, 500 University Ave. West, Room 359.


In Bismarck, the sessions will be held in the Public Service Commission’s hearing room on the 12th floor of the state Capitol.
