They may be 1500 miles away, but faculty, staff and students at California State University-Stanislaus are closely following the controversy surrounding North Dakota University System Chancellor Ham Shirvani.

Shirvani was president of the California campus before he was hired last year to head the North Dakota University System.

His seven year tenure was marked by high profile up's and downs.

Professor Samuel Regalado is a member of the university's academic senate and one of those who often butted heads with then-President Shirvani.

The rift led the California faculty to pass a vote of "no confidence" in Shirvani.

He's now under investigation by the North Dakota university system for allegations of possible misconduct.

The state senate has voted to buy out the final two year's of Shirvani's contract and the North Dakota Student Association has approved a "no confidence" vote of the chancellor.
