ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota House lawmakers are considering a proposal that would allow for amnesty for underage drinkers who call emergency services when they or one of their friends is having a medical crisis.
D-F-L State Representative Tina Liebling of Rochester sponsored the bill, which was intended to prevent alcohol poisoning or drug overdose deaths.
The bill would mean that anyone who calls 9-1-1, takes someone to the hospital, or otherwise gets them help in a medical crisis won't be charged with underage drinking. The same applies to the person having the medical emergency.
