BISMARCK, N.D. (GPN) –  North Dakota’s current license plates have had a 20-year run, and it may be coming to an end.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation’s budget bill includes about $6 million to design and put out a new license plate.

The Senate approved the spending plan unanimously on Monday. The bill now goes to the North Dakota House for its review.

If the legislation gets final approval, the new plates would be issued starting July 1.

North Dakota’s existing license plate made its debut in 1993. It features wheat stalks, a buffalo and a light blue background.
