SD Secretary Of State Predicts 70 Percent Turnout

Secretary of State Jason Gant expects about 70 percent of South Dakota's registered voters to cast ballots in the general election.

 

 

 

 

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Secretary of State Jason Gant expects about 70 percent of South Dakota's registered voters to cast ballots in the general election.

That would be down slightly from the 73 percent voter turnout in the presidential election of 2008.

If Gant's prediction for this year's election is accurate, about 369,000 votes will be cast by the time polls close Tuesday evening. He expects that about 85,000 of those votes, or slightly less than 25 percent of the total, will be cast in early ballots.

Gant is encouraging everyone to vote so their voices can be heard.

South Dakota's ballot includes races for president, South Dakota's lone seat in the U.S. House, two spots on the Public Utilities Commission, legislative seats and seven ballot issues.
