Coming soon to south Fargo -- a new and improved public health headquarters.

City commissioners have approved the purchase of the vacant CVS-Sunmart building at 25th street and 13th avenue for $3 million.

Negotiations on the purchase have been underway for several months.

City Administrator Pat Zavoral says the health department' has outgrown its present location downtown and has staff and operations spread out in at least eight other sites.

Remodeling and expanding the building did not seem pratical:


A part of the CVS building will also include a new police precinct.

Total cost of the purchase and renovations is about $10 million and will take a year to a year and a half to complete.
