Combative Sports Commissioner Al Jaeger says it appears that the knockout was fake, but the fight's outcome wasn't pre-determined between opponents.
North Dakota's combative sports commissioner says there's no evidence that a controversial boxing match in West Fargo last weekend was "fixed."
Iowa boxer Nicholas Capes was suspended after a video showed him "taking a dive" against former Minnesota Vikings player Ray Edwards.
The video has more than one million "hits" on YouTube.
Commissioner Al Jaeger tells KFGO News it appears that Capes faked the knockout, but the fight's outcome wasn't pre-determined with Edwards.
Capes was chosen as a "last minute" fill-in after Edwards' opponent was a "no-show." Jaeger says he'll be changing state boxing rules to prevent late substitutions in the future.
Jaeger says he’s concerned that incidents like these damage the integrity of the sport, but he says the vast majority of North Dakota boxing matches are legitimate contests.
