Lawyers for Tara Andvik are raising the possibility that her husband may have started a series of fires at the couple's rural Barnesville home.
Andvik is appealing her conviction of three counts of first-degree arson. She was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
In a 22-page Minnesota Court of Appeals brief, Tara's attorneys say Matt Andvik had a motive to burn the home to get revenge because Tara had an affair; a claim that Matt denied in an interview with KFGO news.
Tara’s father, Frank Anderson says there’s no way that Matt could be responsible. He said the claim is “crazy” and makes him “absolutely sick.”
Defense attorneys also claim that a neighbor with a history of arson could have been responsible. They say prosecutors didn't have adequate evidence to prove that Tara had the motive, means, or opportunity to start the fires. They're asking for a new trial.
