An updated flood forecast from the National Weather Service shows there's a 50-percent chance the Red River in Fargo-Moorhead could hit 38.1 feet this Spring.

Fargo says it's well prepared to handle that, but sandbags will be needed to shore up levees and other low area's. City Adminstrator Pat Zavoral says the city will neeed to fill 500,000 sandbags. That's in addition to another 750,000 filled bags in reserve.

Moorhead City Manager Mike Redlinger says the city has no concerns if the Red River tops 38-feet. At that level, only seven property owners would need to build flood protection. In fact, Redlinger says the city is quite comfortable through 40-feet, thanks to 90-million dollars in improvements, including 217 home buyouts since 2009.

In 2009, the Red River topped out at just under 41-feet.
