DNR Says Ski Resort Can Use Lake Superior Water

The state Department of Natural Resources says a northeastern Minnesota ski resort can use water from Lake Superior to make snow.

 

 

 

 

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The state Department of Natural Resources says a northeastern Minnesota ski resort can use water from Lake Superior to make snow.

The DNR says drawing water for the Lutsen Mountain ski resort and area businesses won't significantly impact the environment. The ski resort has been using water from the Poplar River, but low water levels and sedimentation are a concern for the trout stream.

The resort still needs state and county permits for its $5 million Lake Superior project.

Lutsen Mountain spokeswoman Judy Erickson says the water supply will benefit the entire community, including its supply for drinking and firefighting.
