American Crystal Sugar is asking the North Dakota Supreme Court to reconsider a ruling that makes union workers eligible for unemployment benefits.

The workers were locked out 19 months ago in a contract dispute with American Crystal. A lower court had ruled North Dakota workers were not eligible for jobless benefits but the union appealed to the State Supreme Court. Two weeks ago, the court decided that more than 400 locked out workers at American Crystal plants at Drayton and Hillsboro were entitled to the benefits that could mean a payout of about $4 million dollars.
