DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - The Detroit Lakes City Council has voted to move ahead with a proposal to turn the Detroit Mountain ski hill into a four-season recreation area.
The plan calls for skiing, tubing, campsites, mountain bike and hiking trails. Mayor Matt Brenk is hoping the unanimous vote sends a message to the DNR, which will be asked to consider a grant for part of the $6 million project.
The city has pledged $300,000. Tax credits and private fundraising are also planned.
