Medical marijuana supporters gathered outside the downtown Fargo Post Office over the weekend to begin collecting signatures to place the issue on the November ballot.
Libertarian congressional candidate Eric Olson believes supporters will get enough signatures because of marijuana's benefits for people with serious illnesses.
"I don't think the government should be telling us which drugs we can and cannot use, especially when there's known medical benefits," said Olson. "I haven't seen, there's no reason not to, there's no harm associated."
Supporters have until August 8th to collect the signatures. More than 13,000 signatures are needed.
