Lightning Bolt Stops Twins-Rangers Game

A bolt of lightning close to Rangers Ballpark followed by an immediate loud clap of thunder led to a delay in last night's game between the Rangers and Twins.

 

 

 

 

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - A bolt of lightning close to Rangers Ballpark followed by an immediate loud clap of thunder led to a delay in last night's game between the Rangers and Twins.

While there were storms in the surrounding area Sunday night, no rain was falling when there was suddenly a jarring bolt of lightning during the 4th inning.

Rangers officials said it struck north of Rangers Ballpark and that there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Roy Oswalt was preparing to throw a pitch when the flash and sound caused him to cringe.

Catcher Mike Napoli took off running toward the dugout, as did Twins batter Ryan Doumit.

Josh Willingham, the runner at first, dropped to the ground and umpire crew chief Jeff Kellogg immediately stopped the game.

It started to rain about 10 minutes later in North Texas.

The Rangers went on to win the game 4-3 in extra innings.

It was the second consecutive 4-3 overtime win for Texas in this weekend's series.
