Forty-two percent of North Dakota is impacted by drought according to the latest U.S. drought monitor issued by the Department of Agriculture and the National Weather Service.

Despite rains last night, state climatologist Adnan Akyuz expects conditions won't show any improvement and will probably worsen when the new weekly report is issued tomorrow, Friday.

Akyuz says the moisture was not widespread and there were significant differences in rainfall even just a few houses apart, something he says is not unusual for North Dakota.

Officially, 2.35 inches of rain fell at hector airport, a new record for the amount.
