Crookston Man Pleads Guilty In Crash Death

A Crookston man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge involving a deadly crash last year.

A Crookston man has pleaded guilty to a murder charge involving a deadly crash last year.

Ricardo Mello, 24, entered a guilty plea to 2nd degree murder for stealing a police car and crashing into another vehicle and killing a man in downtown Crookston last September.

Mello fought with police officer trying to question him at a downtown bar and wound up stealing one of their squad cars.

He crashed a few blocks away, killing Eddie Briggs of Thief River Falls.

Mello will be sentenced October 29 following a psychological evaluation.
