The five Rotary Clubs of Fargo-Moorhead have announced an expansion of the "Project English" program.

Launched in 2011, the program uses "Rosetta Stone", the computer language-learning software to teach new Americans English. Rotarians have committed nearly $13,000 to buy the programs and have partnered with schools, colleges, student organizations, businesses and others to provide volunteers and the host sites for the program.

Rotarian Heather Ranck says more than 2,500 refugees, most from non-English speaking countries, have settled in Fargo-Moorhead in the past decade so there's a need, especially for adults, who don't have access to English courses in school.

So far, 145 volunteers have spent 1,000 hours assisting 160 new Americans with "Project English."

It now has 8 sites.
