Xcel Energy's Reliablity Performance Plan gets a hearing before the North Dakota Public Service Commission today in Bismarck.
The plan came out of a rate settlement case approved by the PSC earlier this year. In turn, the PSC pressed Xcel Energy to improve service reliablity. That followed "high profile" outages last year that affected thousands of customers in Fargo. Xcel's Dave Sederquist says the company is spending several million dollars on new technology and upgrades.
Xcel is also replacing older underground cable and has put an electrical engineer in Fargo to monitor the company's North Dakota service network. The plan would also require Xcel to rebate $50 to customers if there are more than three non-weather related outages in a year.
