Drivers will notice more company on the highway over the Memorial Day weekend.

According to Gail Weinholzer, from Triple A-Minnesota, money-conscious people are staying on the ground and closer to home.

"We're going to see about a 1.2 percent increase over last year, so just under 35 million Americans will be traveling over 50 miles during the Memorial Day weekend," said Weinholzer. "More people are driving and fewer people are flying, and the fewer people flying are not traveling quite as far."

Triple A said gas prices have been trending down. The travel club has put aside forecasts of $4 gas by Memorial Day.
