Traffic was diverted on a portion Highway 10 in Moorhead Friday morning after a suspicious item was found.
KFGO's Jim Monk reported a black backpack was found around 7 a.m. in a bus shelter near Target and Highway 10 with a note attached with the word "bomb" written on it.
The Red River Valley Regional Bomb Squad was on scene and using a remote-controlled robot, opened the backpack. Only food and personal items were found.
"We got called by some lawn service that found a package in the bus shelter located just north of Target," said Officer Deric Swenson of the Moorhead Police Department. "The package was labeled that, "this is a bomb." At that point, our officers responded and began to perform a perimeter for people's safety. Target was notified and also the Regional Bomb Squad. We were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the Moorhead Police Department, the Moorhead Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol."
The Minnesota State Patrol and F-M Ambulance were also on scene.
Target employees were told not to report to work until the all-clear was given.
A criminal investigation is underway to find who left the backpack behind.
