FARGO - This summer's extremely dry conditions are resulting in a new problem-- one not seen before by Fargo Public Works.
The drought conditions have dried up the soil, causing the ground to settle, which is resulting in water main breaks. At least three have been reported since last night. Two of the breaks were significant. In one case, a basement was flooded.
Public Works' Lee Anderson says they never see problem until winter, when frost is to blame.
Anderson says the settling is also wreaking havoc with streets. He says Public Works has been fielding a lot of calls about dips, cracks and pot holes showing up.
