Man Scammed Out Of $2,000

An elderly man from the Perham, Minn. area is out more than $2,000 after falling for a scam where a caller claims a relative needs money to get out of jail.

 

 

 

 

An elderly man from the Perham, Minn. area is out more than $2,000 after falling for a scam where a caller claims a relative needs money to get out of jail.

The 84-year-old man told the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office that he sent two payments after receiving a call that his nephew needed bail money. His nephew had not been arrested.

The scam has several variations. In other cases, the con artist will claim that a child or grandchild has been arrested.
