BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The University of North Dakota wants to set up a new geology school, with help from a major oil company and its chairman.

It's a $14 million initiative. Continental Resources Co. and chief executive Harold Hamm are putting $5 million each into the project. A state oil and gas research fund is being asked to supply another $4 million.

North Dakota's Industrial Commission is considering the request Monday at a meeting in Grand Forks.

The project's promoters say the money will be used to equip the school, pay its professors and provide financial aid to students. The new school expects to graduate 50 petroleum geologists and engineers every year.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple says it's an opportunity for North Dakota students to train for a high-paying career at UND.
