Wildfire Closes Part Of Trail In ND Badlands

An eight-mile stretch of the popular Maah Daah Hey Trail in the western North Dakota Badlands is closed because of a wildfire.

 

 

 

 

MEDORA, N.D. (AP) - An eight-mile stretch of the popular Maah Daah Hey Trail in the western North Dakota Badlands is closed because of a wildfire.

The U.S. Forest Service says the Plumely Draw Fire has blackened 60 acres about eight miles south of Medora. No structures have been threatened and no injuries have been reported, but the trail used by bikers, hikers and horseback riders is closed from the Bully Pulpit Trailhead to Plumely Trailhead.

Forest Service spokeswoman Babete Anderson says that the fire might have been started by lightning, likely over the weekend.

The Maah Daah Hey Trail connects the northern and southern portions of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It runs about 100 miles. It attracts thousands of people each year.
