The 160 soldiers of the North Dakota National Guard’s 188th Engineer Company are counting down the hours until they're home.
They were deployed to Kuwait a year ago and are due to return to North Dakota tomorrow. They've spent the past week demobilizing at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Lt. Dennis Huffman of Grand Forks says you can feel the excitement. Huffman says, “It’s kind of like that sense of a young kid with Christmas coming up.” He goes on to say, “You can definitely tell there is a lot of anticipation and excitement.”
The company will arrive on two flights tomorrow (Friday) at Fargo’s Hector Airport's Old Terminal. One is arriving at 11:45 a.m. and a second flight landing an hour later.
The 188th is based in Wahpeton and its soldiers come from 70 communities across North Dakota and Minnesota.
