Washington (AP) - Two days after President Barack Obama urged Congress to vote on his plan to extend expiring tax cuts for a year for everyone but the highest-earning Americans, Senate Democrats have blocked a vote on the matter.

Republicans had proposed votes on two amendments, as both parties look to embarrass each other on the tax issue.

Majority Leader Harry Reid says the Senate will get to it after it finishes work on a small business tax cut.
