Two Republicans have entered the race to fill the legislative seat of Minn. State Representative Morrie Lanning of Moorhead.

Retired U.S. Postal Service employee Ken Lucier, a 30 year resident of Moorhead, describes himself as a constitutional conservative.

"I'm going to advocate responsibility for free enterprise, personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, limited constitutional government," said Lucier.

Lucier says he would work to restore the homestead tax credit, lower taxes for businesses and make Minnesota a right-to-work state.

Also in the race is Travis Reimche, a healthcare accounts manager.

"If you look at the border towns right within Minnesota, on the other side, every city is larger," said Reimche. "Fargo-Moorhead, Wahpeton-Breckenridge, Grand Forks-East Grand Forks. There is a reason, because the business climate and tax structures. We need to look at what we're doing there."

Reimche grew up in Moorhead. He has been a candidate for the Moorhead City Council and on the ballot for the Moorhead School Board twice.

Both are hoping for the backing of Clay County Republicans.

Lanning is leaving the legislature after 10 years.
