BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) - Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that police shot and killed a man when he aimed a rifle at them Tuesday at a home north of Belfield in southwest North Dakota.
Billings County State's Attorney Jay Brovold says the shooting occurred when Dickinson tactical team sought to arrest 26-year-old Kyle Quackenbush on an earlier charge of aggravated assault arising from a July 3 incident in Stark County. Brovold says Quackenbush was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Dickinson Police Department officer has been placed on administrative leave, a customary move in such situations.
Homeowner Mike Burian says a man broke into his home early Tuesday, stole a gun, and was shot and killed by law officers about 12 hours later.
