The Army Corps of Engineers will hold an open house Tuesday night to discuss the first segment of the Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project.
Corps Spokesman Patrick Moes said the open house will lay out the initial stages of design for the first segment, which includes the northern reaches of the diversion in the Georgetown area.
"It's kind of a design in reverse, if you will," said Moes. "We begin the design process and focus on the outlet to the diversion project. Therefore there is no potential damage that could be created during the actual design and ultimately, if and when the project would be funded, the construction. So we design the outlet first and we'll work back toward the inlet to the structure itself."
The Corps and local government leaders will be on hand to discuss the project and give an informal update on where the project is at.
The meeting runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fargo Holiday Inn.
