A stranded boater used his cell phone to call the Polk County Sheriff’s Department around to report he and his three sons were adrift in their fishing boat in a storm after both outboard engines quit.
Authorities said they needed to move quickly because of the threatening weather, which prompted thunderstorm watches and warnings.
A deputy was able to get a rope to the boat that had been blown into cattails and the four used it to wade to shore in strong winds, high waves and heavy lightning. No injuries were reported.
The four are from the Fosston area.
