Fighting Sioux Gear Sparse At Fargo Polling Sites

A ballot measure on the future of the University of North Dakota nickname is a hot topic in Tuesday's primary, but voters in the state's largest city aren't wearing their Fighting Sioux emotions on their sleeves, or anywhere else.

 

 

 

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A ballot measure on the future of the University of North Dakota nickname is a hot topic in Tuesday's primary, but voters in the state's largest city aren't wearing their Fighting Sioux emotions on their sleeves, or anywhere else.

Cass County election officials had talked about making voters cover up Sioux apparel at polling sites, citing state laws that prohibit campaigning on election day. They later backed off and said they weren't going to make a big deal out of it.

The early reservations were proving to be unfounded. Only one election worker among five sites in Fargo reported the presence of any UND garb.

Cass County election Coordinator DeAnn Buckhouse says she hasn't "heard a word" about anyone wearing Sioux gear at the polls.
