Ryan Delgado hit a two-run home run in the second which is all the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks needed in a 2-1 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs for their 14th straight home win on August 5, 2012 at Newman Outdoor Field.
It was a pitcher’s duel from the start of the game between starters Alex Caldera and Ryan Sheldon. Caldera improved to 9-2 on the season after pitching 7 1/3 innings giving up one earned run on six hits, two walks, while striking out five. Sheldon (5-3) pitched six innings in the loss giving up two earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and striking out five. RedHawks relievers Joe Harris and Kevin Fuqua held the Saltdogs in check in the eighth and Tom Boleska closed out the ninth and earned his franchise tying 23rd save of the season.
Eric Campbell lead off the second for Fargo-Moorhead with a double down the right field line and Delgado hit his 13th home run of the season with one out to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead.
Caldera held Lincoln scoreless going into the sixth before a David Espinosa RBI fielder’s choice scored Sean Smith to put the Saltdogs on the board.
Lincoln’s best opportunity to score came in the eighth. With runners on second and third and two outs, Fuqua was able to force Mike Provencher into hitting a groundball to Carlo Cota which got the RedHawks out of the inning.
